A New Pedestrian-cycle Bridge For Vancouver?
As a post-script to my previous post about the Burrard Bridge, I was at CBC Radio 1's mayoral candidates meeting last night and it was interesting to hear both Gregor Robertson and Peter Ladner say they would look at building a new bridge. Robertson seemed much more emphatic about it. Ladner mentioned it as a possible solution in a non-committal way.
Neither mentioned when construction on the new bridge might start. More at issue on the night was whether Ladner's railing on the existing pedestrian-cyclist sidewalk or Robertson's separate paths for cyclists using one of the existing road lanes was the best solution for the Burrard Bridge safety issue. I interviewed Jane Lister, who was seriously injured on the bridge 10 years ago. She asked the candidates how they are going to address the safety issue.
