Olympic 2010 Insecurity Forces Strike? Or Plain Ol' Police Harassment?
Seems like paranoia is getting the better of the 2010 Olympic security forces. Chris Shaw is an intellectual who has been one of the most vocal critics of the 2010 Olympics. A thorn in the side of VANOC? Yes. But he hardly seems a security threat. So why are plain clothes cops from the Integrated Security Unit swooping in on a friend of his - a student nurse at Langara College called Danika Surm - to get her to cough up some dirt on her friend?
It doesn't seem like a particularly bright way of gathering intelligence. Especially making it clear (to Surm) from the outset that WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE by calling her by her first name and calling her cell phone after she refused to give it to them.
In fact, it's so clumsy the point might just be to give any would-be Olympic subversives something to think about. Or as Vancouver city councillor David Cadman puts it, a "form of harassment".
