Video: Election Night Victory For "Mayor Moonbeam"

While I generally try to maintain a professional equanimity in any of my blogging and vlogging, it's been quite difficult during this last Vancouver municipal election campaign given the low level of tactics that the NPA, incumbent party Vision's main opposition, has resorted to in its bid to win votes. This is the party that has given us exemplary local councillors Peter Ladner and Gordon Price in the past, but the NPA campaign this time around didn't shed much light on the talents of their latest crop of candidates.

Mayor Robertson Wants Car-Free Bike Routes in Vancouver

During his campaign to get nominated as Vision leader, Gregor Robertson spoke to cyclists before April Critical Mass about what he'd like to see for cyclists. Here's a video of what he said.

V is for... Vision. Vancouver. Victory.

And a pretty resounding victory too. Gregor Robertson is new mayor of Vancouver notching up almost 40% more votes than NPA mayoral hopeful Peter Ladner. Vision Vancouver's slate of candidates were all elected bar Kashmir Dhaliwal. Suzanne Anton was the only NPA candidate for council to get elected.

Why are we still debating the Burrard Bridge?

It's municipal election day in Vancouver on Saturday. Voters must be feeling a sense of deja vue: we're still being asked to vote on what to do with the Burrard Bridge, the 6-lane, art deco bridge that forms a gateway to downtown Vancouver.
