Spanish Banks Today

Today, A. and I took the bike on the B-line from Commercial Drive to UBC campus and biked the seaside route back. It's one of my favourite Vancouver rides, and today was a gorgeous sunny day for it. If it wasn't for the biting North-Westerly breeze it would felt like a Summer's day. Lots of other people had the same idea - the route was busy for a winter's day.

East Van Crown 2010 Bike Polo Tournament Videos

The East Van Crown went off as well as we could have dreamed. It rained, but mostly overnight and the courts at New Brighton Park dried through each morning under a brightening sky.

Spot the Stop Sign

I was riding blithely along the bike route today with my tiny passenger in the back seat, when I blew through a stop sign without even realising it. This time we were lucky.

East Van Crown 2010

It's only a week until the two-day East Van Crown bike polo tournament. Vancouver has some of the best hardcourt bike polo in the world, with teams regularly cropping up in the top places in North American and World Bike Polo championships.

Bike polo is also a great spectator sport - so come join us in the annual tournament next weekend at New Brighton Courts.

On Friday, there's also a less competitive "Dirty Threesome" polo championship.

Two Thumbs Up For Vancouver's Separated Bike Lanes

Yesterday, I dropped by the public consultation on the Hornby Street separated bike lanes. I have to say I'm very impressed by City Hall taking the initiative here, especially as this is the busy downtown core and there's obviously many variables to work with.

I've only ridden on the newish Dunsmuir separate bike lanes a handful of times (they officially opened on 15 June), but found the experience wonderful.

Driver Shot Dead on 10th Avenue Cycleway

Vancouver notched up its second reported homicide of 2010, on the busy 10th Avenue bike path between Clarke and Commercial Drive. The CBC is reporting that an Asian male in his early 20s was shot in the torso shortly after 1pm and then crashed into a white commercial van. He was rushed to hospital, where he died a short time later.
